Inside the build of a 7.62 m mine hoist sheave

October 16, 2026

How do you build a 7.62 m mine hoist sheave to tight tolerances?

This FLS project covers the manufacture of the largest sheave we are aware of, for a Canadian mine with a shaft depth of 1,800 m. The sheave supports the hoist rope from the head frame down to the conveyance. It rotates at 50 rpm (rope speed of 72 km/h) and is designed for 80 tonnes of maximum rope tension and 500 million cycles over 25 years.
